Dolphin & Reef Snorkeling Trips

The famous lagoons — masks and fins, no tanks needed

Honesty corner: you'll sometimes see Elphinstone marketed to snorkelers. Don't take that trip — it's an open-sea drift site for advanced divers only. Every trip below is a genuine snorkeling site.

Step 4 of 4 — 4 curated spots, ready to book

Fury Shoals, deep south

Sataya (Dolphin House) Reef

The great spinner-dolphin lagoon — the south's signature day

A vast crescent lagoon where spinner dolphin pods rest after night hunts. Boats anchor outside; you slip in and float as the pod cruises past — sometimes dozens of animals, wild and utterly in charge of the encounter. Long day (2 h drive + boat), lifetime memory. Respectful-distance rules enforced.

Best time

Early boats, calm days; pods rest in the lagoon most mornings

Entry & fees

Full-day trip incl. transfers, lunch, gear and guide — live price below.

Insider tip

When the pod approaches, stop swimming and go vertical-still — spinners circle motionless snorkellers out of pure curiosity and flee splashers.

Offshore Marsa Alam town

Samadai Reef (Dolphin House Marsa Alam)

The protected dolphin sanctuary — zoned, capped and better for it

Samadai is the model for how dolphin tourism should work: a horseshoe reef declared a managed sanctuary, with a no-entry rest zone for the pod, a capped daily visitor quota and marked snorkel zones over superb coral. You may watch dolphins from the permitted zone and snorkel a genuinely lovely reef either way.

Best time

Mornings; the daily quota also means booking ahead matters

Entry & fees

Trip price includes the sanctuary permit (capped daily) plus boat, gear, guide — live price below.

Insider tip

Book Samadai for early in your week — if the pod doesn't show, you can re-roll later; last-day gamblers can't.

Abu Dabbab Bay (guided from the water)

Abu Dabbab Turtle & Dugong Snorkel Trip

The turtle bay with a guide who knows every resident by name

The organised version of the famous bay: transfers, entry, gear and — the real value — a guide who reads the seagrass and puts you on turtles within minutes instead of hopeful laps. Includes the reef arms most self-guided visitors miss entirely.

Best time

Morning slots before excursion-bus hour

Entry & fees

All-in trip (transfer, bay entry, gear, guide) — live price below.

Insider tip

Tell the guide you want the guitar ray too — there's usually one on the sand line at the seagrass edge, and they know its haunts.

Marsa Alam Dolphin House Day Cruise

The easy-going boat day — dolphins possible, great reefs certain

The relaxed all-rounder: a classic boat day hitting two or three reef stops on the local dolphin-house circuit, with lunch on board and time to actually float instead of racing a schedule. The right choice for mixed groups where not everyone is a dolphin-mission maximalist.

Best time

Any fair-weather day

Entry & fees

Boat day incl. lunch, gear, guide — live price below.

Insider tip

Claim the bow net cushions on departure — best seat on the boat for the crossing and the first to spot dolphins riding the wake.
