Drive past the light-pollution line, eat a Bedouin-style dinner as the sky switches on, then work through planets, nebulae and star clusters with a guide who knows the sky and a telescope that does it justice. Winter nights regularly show the Milky Way core to the naked eye.

A purpose-built Arabian-nights arena staging horse stunts, tanoura (whirling dervish) performances, belly dance and a pharaonic pageant, wrapped around an Egyptian buffet dinner. It is gloriously over the top and completely aware of it — bring kids or bring a sense of humour, ideally both.
